GEORGE DONNELLY – BECOME A BLOOD DONER?
Some time ago, I started researching a home test to monitor Serum Ferritin (SF) in order to both reduce the load on an over-stretched NHS and to save everyone with HH both their personal time and the number of times that we have to be ‘stabbed’ with a needle.
Once in maintenance, I decided that I should, as often as possible, use the Blood Transfusion Service for my phlebotomies. • This has the dual benefit of increasing blood supplies to use in the NHS and saves the NHS money, as they have to safely dispose of blood from phlebotomies, which has a cost to the NHS.
- We are aware that the rules vary in different countries, even in different states. Fortunately, in the UK the Blood Transfusion Service will accept blood from HH donors.
